Temporary Unavailability

Eucalyptus has currently been withdrawn from sale on the App Store by Apple. A more explanatory blog post will accompany its return - we’re hard at work on the problem right now.

Just to avoid speculation, the situation is in no way connected to the problems we originally had when submitting Eucalyptus to Apple, and we’re certain it will quickly be resolved. Don’t worry, Eucalyptus will be back soon!

Thanks for your patience.

Update:
If you would like to be notified when Eucalyptus is available again, just send an email to eucalyptus@th.ingsmadeoutofotherthin.gs and we’ll let you know as soon as we can!

When Eucalyptus comes back, will it still be a free update for the purchasers of the previous version?

  • Cody: Yes, certainly - you probably won’t even notice any changes.

  • Well, I don’t think Eucalyptus ever had the ability to sync with USB, so it’s not what got Stanza, and you would think that would have been an issue back when that went down..

It’s not connected to the content, since "the problems we originally had when submitting" were about the Kama Sutra…

    Curious commenter is curious.

  • It may be connected to iPad native ability to read Project Gutenberg books…
I hope Eucalyptus will come back soon. Good luck.

  • Is this related to Eucalyptus’ current inability to download new books? I’m not clear on why withdrawal from the App Store would affect currently installed apps.

  • I’m in favor of open internet and a Apple Addict as well. There is room for everyone and everything on the Internet.

Can you tell us any more about the "temporary situation?" This is my first encounter with Ebooks, and the future holds revolutionary opportunities. My 50 years of typographic, design, publishing, printing, distribution, multi-language titles are all distilled into a Digital Dynamite iPAD package. No one fully appreciates how powerful and how quickly the change could take place. Blocking Eucalyptus or making an "arrangement" is part of the foundation work.

Can any of you help me with Research Suggestions (for the digital book review I’m creating) and how to publish an iBook (or an eBook as they were originally called) with the iPAD? Your help would be much appreceted. Saludos from Mexico: Joseph F. Staszak - Director, ExLibris.com.mx

  • Brian: You’re correct - your current copy of Eucalyptus should be functioning normally (and we’re not seeing any problems here). I’ve emailed you about the problem.

Everyone else: We’re waiting on Apple’s approval for the new version of Eucalyptus. We’ll have a full explanation when the situation is fully resolved (which we still anticipate will be soon!).

  • Well, I see that it’s back! I have just downloaded it and am already enjoying the very clean interface - I even "fluttered" some pages and thought, "oooh! Nice!" =)

I will let you spill the beans yourself about the current holdup - the "New in this version" explained it all - and it makes perfect sense.

I’m off to go read now! Great job!

  • I also experienced difficulties two days ago, with the App telling me it couldn’t find space to download any books. Since resolved, however, by deleting the old app and updating to the latest version in the App Store.

My concern is that if you are able to block downloads, you are presumably providing a portal to Gutenberg through which our requests are directed. Am I correct in thinking that we are therefore reliant on your servers as well as Gutenberg for book downloads? I am bothered by this. Even if it’s a copyright issue (na in my case, as I was downloading Dickens and Hardy), one can download directly from Gutenberg Australia - with less severe copyright restrictions.

  • Actually, I’m seeing the same problem as Brian: I am uble to search for or download new books.
The suggested book shelves are blank and all searches return no results.
